Two Year Anniversary

Two years ago today-April 23,2006-I started this blog with this post, and this one.

This is me...though this is not my house.

I have never really blogged, and I wonder if I'll ever have anything to truly say.

Frog Applause

Every once in a while a special comic comes out that shouldn't have to wait until next Sunday to be acknowledged.Today's(Sunday,April 20th)'Frog Applause' has reached that plateau. With the blessing of many of today's top cartoonists,Teresa Dowlatshahi has come out with an important comic that emphasizes Sexual Violence Awareness. As the comic states, many children are sexually abused, and the damage can last a lifetime. This dramatic and praise worthy strip even gives two sights to help sexual abuse victims. The sights are: rainn.org and mocsa.org .
I always preach the importance of comics in today's society;this very important 'Frog Applause' is a prime example of how that statement is very, very much,oh so true.

Godzilla

You are my oppressive regime/you squash me/just like you did Bambi

Born again with a karma-Zen attitude/but you only live once/unless you are a Hindu

God/God/God/God/Godzilla

Bitchin' 'bout the sliver in your eye/when the plank in mine is a 12 by five

drawing your map to a sudden success/then you flush me down the toilet with a life vest

God/God/God/God/Godzilla

I simply wish to taste the fruit of your tree/to be more for me then just a dream

you're the Pope,the bishop,the whole fuckin'team/but it's only the cardinal I care to see

I live the good life I live soo happily/I pick at the scabs and then I scratch them with bleach

Love the rain the wind the snow I preach/but if you're gonna split hairs/I'd be on the beach

God/God/God/God/Godzilla

There were clouds in your coffee you will protest/when you vowed your to allegiance to serve and protect

Don't cha don't ca comin' swearin' back to me/pledging your oath /to the earth wind and sea

God/God/God/God/Godzilla

The Comic Of The Week

Once again,we have a tie.But this week we have two absolutely great strips.First amongst equals is this'Frog Applause',by the excellent Teresa Dowlatshahi, from last Wednesday. Both arousing and fun, this is the exact type of cutting edge humour that should be in the comics.Hey,Teresa, great strip. Here is a vertical smile of my own....> :-)
Next is the comic we all been waiting for.Luann rocked on Wednesday.Way to go Brad & Toni.

Both strips are in their own ways just top notch work...the reason I read the comics. That is why they both are the comic of the week.

Join The 'Earth Day' Peaceful Protest

I have come up with a great way to celebrate both Earth Day(April,22),and to protest the outrageous profits the gas companies are making(I was going to say,'generating',but that is just too ironic).

I am suggesting a protest that is peaceful, legal, and most importantly,'green'.It will help save both our pocket books and our planet.

I am asking for just one day-Earth Day-April 22,2008-for everyone to be civilly disobedient by simply obeying the law(for once).I am suggesting that everyone 'drive the speed limit'!

This,in my opinion,is an excellent form of peaceful protest that would make both Gandhi and Martin Luther King proud. It would be totally within the law,and bring to the forefront of the media that Americans are both sick of the oil companies and are willing to sacrifice for a better,greener-planet.

So,whose with me?If you are, just simply send this post along to your friends.Let's help make a greener ,healthier Earth,if just for one day.

It could be a new beginning.

The Black Keys:Attack And Release!

YippY! ThE BlaCk kEyS HaVe JUsT cOmE OuT WitH,
'ATtaCk
& REleASe"...

... and I loved it.

There are very few music groups-now-a-days-that I get excited about releasing a new Lp,but I was so excited about the new Black Keys release that I could hardly sleep the night before it came out....

...and i loved it.

I wondered if they would stray far from their roots[or not far enough] when they got mega producer,Danger Mouse,to motivate them.Alas,no need to worry. This is The Black Keys best cd yet.

Growth...it's funny how by just tweaking their sound a little bit here and a little bit there,The Black Keys have added just the right amount of new soul to their sound .

A banjo here(Psychotic Girl),a flute there(Same Old thing),a duet(Things Ain't Like They used To Be),a little bit of background chanting(I Got Mine/Strange Times),an organ(Things),a second guitar(Lies/So He won't Break) etc,etc and so forth.

And yet...still so much like the freakin' great Black Keys.

New players besides Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney include Ralph Carney.Ralph is Patrick's uncle and has played with a ton of groups...including Tom Waits,Elvis Costello,Tin Huey and one of my all time favorite band's,Kent,Ohio's own,'The Waitresses. He add's-at least-the clarinet on,'Remember When' and the Tull like flute on,'Same Old Things'.Great stuff.

Another Waits/Costello alumni on,'Attack & Release' is guitarist Marc Ribot.Listen to his work on,'Lies' and 'So He Won't Break'.

On,'Things Ain't Like They Used To Be',Dan even sings a duet with another Kent,Ohio product,18 year old blue grass singer, Jessica Lea Mayfield.Take a listen...

...I loved it.

The heavily produced by Danger Mouse single,'Strange Times' fits in with the rest of the Lp perfectly. This is the Black Keys, baby.Ditto,'I Got Mine'.

Perhaps my favorite song is,'Psychotic Girl'.With it's piano and banjo backing, this is a very smooth groove. It almost seems to come from some demented western..hmmm..perhaps from 'The Dark Tower',say,'The Gunslinger'.This song is the bomb.

On the album, the softer,'Remember When(Side A)' is on side A,and the more jamming 'Remember When(side B)' is actually on Side B.Either way...very enjoyable.

'Same Old thing' is another favorite.Flute, man!Rockin flute! This ain't the same old thing...yet,it is.

'Oceans and Streams' should be a radio staple. It sounds like sonar love.'All I Ever Wanted',starts off both the cd and the Lp.It is a mostly acoustic blues tune. But a nice beginning.

The Black Key's:"Attack & Release...

YippY!
