Fiction

She took a long drag of her cigarette, and then she blew the smoke out in her exhale.Though George knew the smoke to be toxic,he appreciated the beauty in it as it whisped and curled around her face. She said,"How can anyone actually believe in a god that let's 'his' chosen people mass murder another group of people and then they are praised for it instead of condemned just because they are God's chosen people?"

Her beauty was always out of his league. It was hard to get by it.Synapses triggered chemicals in his brain something akin to sexual climax-a pleasant mindless numbness-that he both rallied for and fought against when ever he was around her.Did it make him smarter/dumber?He didn't know.In the haze it all seemed like bluff.

That's why he fought it.It's just chemicals. It's just biology.Millions of years of evolution hard wired into his DNA.He saw a woman go into epileptic seizures when the American Tv news anchor spoke. It had nothing to do with him. There was no free choice involved.

Free choice.HA!It was closer to fate.Destiny.The world in it's mixed up chaos over the eons created her as surely as it created him.He felt like a flower being pollinated by a bee.

Evolution.God.It was all the fuckin' same. That's why he went with it.

And here she spoke as if there was no God.Evolution was the fuckin' trickster. She was proof of that.He always felt like he was drowning around her.She always seemed to think that she was the one walking on water. She didn't have these mind fucks(at least not around him). She didn't short circuit at his very voice.

"You are mistaking people's actions for God's,"he replied. He watched her inhale and exhale the smoke again. Was nothing that she did not beautiful?"Those damn things will kill you.Men are getting rich on your death.Well, men and women, really."

She stared at him momentarily,as if trying to figure her next move.It was just fractions of a second,"It doesn't matter if it was God or just his supposed chosen minion's actions. They are allowed to murder hundreds of innocent people because these other human beings killed one or two of them.Where is the outrage? If it was the other way around..oh..there would be outrage..if God did exist,he's a mad bugger."

George hated that he had to hide the fact that his body and mind were drawn to Maggie this way.Like a magnet=pulled against his will....pulled willingly...fuck...just pulled. His energy-in his mind-seemed to be absorbed by her's:merged into one being. He would go willingly.Yet,he couldn't.He fought it heart and soul.

His hope for God,gave him cause in this evolutionary battle. He wanted to see this battle for(against) her as love.Damn it,he didn't want it to be a losing battle on the evolutionary battlefield. If evolution was God,Maggie was it's chosen people. What chance did he have?

Happy MLK Day

Hi,again.Happy Martin Luther King Day.

Last Sunday found me once again plowing snow.Saturday evening at around 6:30 I checked on buckeyetraffic.org.Hit the 'Text- Only Version';clicked on:'Winter Location Conditions';scrolled down to,'District Seven' and saw that Auglaize County had 11 crews working.

Shit.

I called my boss, and asked him if I was going to be needed. He said no,that they were just about finishing things up and everyone was going to be sent home.

Good.

I stayed up past SNL.The old Star Trek was just coming on.I was getting ready for bed.

It was 1:30am Sunday morning.

The phone rang.

Shit.

I knew it was work.

I ended up plowing snow from 2am until 5:30 pm.

15 1/2 hours!

I had been up since 7:30 Saturday morning.

Oh well. All's well that ends well. The plowing went smoothly and also rather quickly.I fell asleep at 10 watching the Obama party on HBO.

Yes,Finally a good nights sleep...and today off to boot:-)

So,happy MLK Day.

I have started a tradition for MLK Day:trading or giving books.I gave my MLK presents out to most people at Christmas time, but forgot to give out any to you..

...So,here are a few on line choices that I picked out just for my faithful readers(both of you) to choose from:

1:The Brothers Karamazov by Fydor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky
This book is really just a prelude to another book that never got written. It is long.It is winding. It is one of the best books that I have ever read.

2:Huckaberry Finn by Mark Twain
Again...just another great book. When Huck is conflicted for loving Tom over viewing him as someone else's property...that is just a great moment in literature. Also, when Mark Twain revisits Tom Sawyer and treats him soo unkindly,I never saw an author treat a beloved character so badly. One amazing book.A have to read.

3:A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
I am a fan of Dickens.'A Christmas Carol' is one of my favorite books.I am only around a quarter of the way through 'Tale'.I love it.But it is in old English. Some words have different meanings than they do now.And the book is so well crafted, that Charles takes his time in his story telling.Long orations on little things.Marvelous.

I hope you haven't read these already,but if you have,they are worth a re-read,no?

Since I don't know when I will get to post again, here are a few other things on my mind...

If some group from Israel had bombed and killed, let's say, four Palestinians and Palestine retaliated by killing over 600 Israelis, wouldn't America and the world just be totally up in arms?!?I am all for Israel.I am pro-Israeli,but this is evil. This is wrong. There has to be a better way.

Go Obama Go!It might not last-probably won't last-but I have not seen America so excited about an inauguration in a long long time.

Where there is hope there is fire...wait,that's not right:-(

Well,I'm out of here...

...crap...I forgot about Nanky Poo again

Of Snow Plowing,Teenage Wrestling, and Nanky Poo

Hi,gang.Long time,no see.

I have been plowing snow for the great state of Ohio...Lots!

Lets just say that in the last 60 hours of my life,I plowed 40 of them...and that is just the last three days.

7 days a week seems to be the norm.Luckily,I like it,and I can store the time off as 'comp' time for a whole bunch of time off in the summer....yes,it is supposed to snow again tonight.

My brother,Carl, sent me this photo from two weekends ago.It was in the ol' hometown's newspaper in the Sunday's 'Remember When' section.

The year was 1974.I was a captain of the freshman wrestling squad.I am the one on the right. My fellow wrestling captain,Steve, is on the left and another wrestler,Darrell is in the middle.

This is one of the mats we had to practice on.My Dad was the president of the athletic booster's club.He came up with the idea of,'Owning A Piece Of The Mat'.We sold off square feet(divided into square inches)to anyone that would buy them.

The idea took off.We finally were able to purchase the new mat...but only after our home season was finished. The powers that be decided to hold an assembly so us team members could get a chance to use the mat by wrestling each other in front of the whole school.

Let's backtrack.Steve and I decided to have a one time wrestle off at the beginning of the year to see whom would wrestle 138 and 145.The loser(since we both weighed the same)would wrestle up.I lost.Maybe because I wanted to compete against heavier guys.Maybe because Steve was better.I don't know.

Steve and I both had great seasons. We each won our tournament.(It was a great year for my Dad;each of his four boys won a wrestling tournament). We each only lost one match. My lost, should have been a tie.I took my opponent down and while the referee was giving me two points, the guy switched me in a blink of an eye.The score keeper(we were wrestling away)never gave me my two points,so I lost,2-0.

Steve and I wrestled each other hard:no mercy;no quarter.May the best man win.

So,when we were matched up together for the 'display',I said to Steve,'We should tie'.He agreed-then immediately took me down and let me up.He was trying to kick my ass.I had to return it in kind.I ended up beating Steve in front of the school by one point. It was the high point of my season.

A high point that almost equalled Carl's.In 1974,Carl became the first wrestler from my hometown to go to'State' in wrestling in twenty two years!

It ended up being the high point of my wrestling career.

Through a series of unfortunate events(which I don't care to get into),I did not wrestle the next year.Steve,on the other hand, had a great season. He came in second in the State!Wow.It was just the beginning of a brilliant career for Steve. He would become State champ,be an All American in college, and end up coming back to our home town to coach our wrestling team all the way to becoming State champions!

I never wrestled again.

Some people consider that a great lost. But not me...to me,it only would have been a great lost if 'Steve' never would have wrestling again.

Well,I was going to get into the story of my first car,Nanky Poo..
...but that will have to wait for another day.

Take care,all.
