Rock Trivia Question

If its a fact that rock & roll legend Ernest Evans got his stage name of 'Chubby Checker' from a take off of his musical hero 'Fats(Antoine) Domino'...

....then from where did 'Little Richard ' get his stage name???

A Taste Of Iraq

By doing this post I do not mean to make light of the Virginia Tech tragedies,33 lives are a terrible terrible tragic lost.America is less because of this terrible thing.

If fact,by writing this post,I intend to show how this tragedy-and other tragedies like this one-are more tragic then we assume.

The absurdness and the randomness of this violent act has left most of us Americans numb and reeling. How???Why??

Yet,in Iraq, this type of horror is a weekly event.Just today 233 people are supposed to have died in four such violent attacks.

How could any people anywhere deal with such horror on a weekly basis?Yet,we as Americans(myself included)think so little of the lost of life and the way of life in such a foreign country as Iraq.

The whole thing is beyond me.

Another Classic Drew Repeat

Yes,I have been too tired & too busy(OK,and too lazy)to come up with a new post,so here is one that I orginally published on 6/27/06 called,'Ashes Of The Republican Dream'.Enjoy

What has happened to the Repubican party?

Nice opening,huh?

First off, right out of the bag,I am a die hard Democrat-always have been-always will be.

But,what has happened to the Repubicans?I mean, they have become caricatures of themselves. It is as if they are now Repubicans in name only.

You see,I believe in the two party system.Hell, even throw in a third or forth party once in a while. But,I like the two party system.

I am a Democrat because I am for the small guy,the oppressed, the overworked, the underpaid.Basically,I am Democrat because I am blue collar, and the Repubicans always seemed to benefit only the rich.Hell,I have nothing against the rich,I am just not one of them. So,while we may butt heads,we can both agree that we both are both truly American.

And I have learned under the two party system that the other party does have it's admired strengths. The Repubicans biggest strength in my eyes is that they are strong Constitution guys.I began to believe in the strength and power of The Constitution mainly because of them. While my own party was trying to make an amendment or two to the Constitution, the values of The Repubican always shouted out against such actions.

Us Democrats wanted to ban certain types of guns. The Repubicans,pushed-perhaps,even lead-by The NRA,were always soundly against such anti-Constitutional measures. They yelled that if we started watering down our rights, soon we would have no Constitution left to fight for.I hate to say it,but I agreed with them whole heartedly. If thousands of handgun deaths was the price for our freedom-then,WoW,Our Constitution and the rights that went with it,was worth the sacrifice...even if someday it was my own sacrifice.

This stance by The Repubicans made me more proud of America and our beautiful meaningful Constitution.I may have hated the Repubicans position on allot of things, but I had to admit, that they were 'right on' about The Constitution and what would happen if we ever started trying to water it down.

Now,I am amazed how this so called new breed of Repubicans are trying to wring The Constitution dry.Gay marriage amendments!Anti-flag burning amendments.Amendments to let non-native born Americans run for president.Anti-immigration amendments! What the HELL is wrong with these people? Are they trying to destroy us from within? These are the very people that should be pissed off about all these frivolous amendments. My God,they should be fighting mad about these kind of shenanigans!

So I ask,What has happened to The Repubican party?

My Thoughts On Good Friday

I want to talk to you about the myth of Jesus.I am not trying to convert you,or enlighten you,or prove to you my own beliefs.I just want to talk to you about the myth.
According to The Bible Jesus died on the cross on what we now call Good Friday.
It is a tough call on exactly when during The Jewish Passover season Jesus supposedly died,so I am totally going to forgo the Passover connotations of Jesus' death. There is significance in this-but who cares.
I rather would like to talk to you about the myth of what happened to Jesus on Good Friday.Because,it's a good myth.
Let's backtrack.I am going to get my information from my various readings of various Bibles...King James,TNIV,Catholic, etc. In these Bibles-contrary to popular belief-by Jesus' own admission,he seldom admitted to healing anybody.Jesus usually said that when the miraculous healings accorded that it was the person's own faith that healed them.
According to the Biblical myth,Jesus championed the rights of women;the poor;the sick;the lonesome sinner. But he also championed the rich, the powerful;the outcast, and the helpless.
Very radical ideas for his time.
But on Good Friday-so the myth goes-even after celebrating with his bro's,Jesus was deserted by his friends and followers, humiliated and tortured by both the religious and civil authorities of the day, whipped, spit on,crowned with thorns, laughed at,crucified(nails through wrists, not through palms),made fun of,and even left alone by his father(God).People gambled for his garments and cheered when he died...yet...and yet....his last words were to ask that the people that persecuted him be forgiven.
WoW!
At this point, whether Jesus would rise again is irrelevant.I have read 'The Lord Of The Rings'.I have read 'Dune'.I have read countless other novels that bring fiction to extreme high points.None(of course, this is in my opinion) of these other myths beat this one.
I have seen and read so many other stories where the hero or heroes were justified in killing their enemies, but after reading the myth of Jesus,I just can't justify their killings. To me,it makes the heroes just as bad as the villains.
Maybe that is why I get such a kick out of Jesus...healing,forgiving,loving.These are all things I would rather believe in.These are things I would rather do.
On this Good Friday,to me that is what is important to me,that in my myth of Jesus,he would rather die then hate. That even in the worst of times,he loved,he forgave. That is my dream

A Little Of This and A Little Of That

Thank God March is over.I had to take away Adam's driving privileges for the month of March because he was picked up for speeding twice in one week(though both times he only got warnings and no tickets). In the same month two kids that the boys went to school with were killed in separate car accidents..both involved speeding..wear your safety belts people.

My Dad has had open heart surgery-a heart valve replaced and one of his three by-passes replaced.I have done the two hour trip(each way)to Port Clinton four weeks in a row, now. My Mom,who has congestive heart failure,is alone while Dad is recovering in a nursing home.He maybe coming home Friday. My family has really come through like champs on this one. Thanks family.

Plus work, baseball, fixing (and trying to fix)things up around the house.I have been overly stressed and overly tired.

Good old Keith Richards...snorting his Dad's ashes...this is just too weird[read here].

Hear about the new Budweiser drink called 'Spykes'?MMmm,sounds good, and kid friendly, too. It has even been called the next Joe Camel.I will have to try it out. They might taste good in beer.

There is rich..and then there is rich.Dubai is the new Paris, the new New York, and the new new money all wrapped into one. These sheiks are so filthy rich..well..if one got a burr up his ass and wanted to cosmetically turn me into a dog there would be nothing I could do to stop him. There is just too much $$$ involved .You have to read about this place.

Also...I am proud of the Buckeyes taking second in the nation in NCAA Men's basketball. All I really was hoping for was a trip to the Final Four. What an absolutely great season for this group of mostly talented young freshmen. It was good to see a team I root for to do so freakin' well.I just loved it.

I have missed writing on this.I hope to get some more in soon.Love ya,my people, signed,The Drew
