Living On The Edge

Here is a warning to everyone that is thinking about upgrading to a new Verizon phone via  the Verizon EDGE plan.Though they say it in very plain English: BEWARE-  You will be paying the full market price on your new phone!

This little bit of knowledge probably won't be reflected on your new bill { With The Edge plan, your cellphone bill will probably remain virtually unchanged } ,but the danger in this new Verizon plan is in the fact that if this new phone is either lost or stolen, you will still owe Verizon the overly expensive full market price of the phone.

In the case of the new I~Phone 5s 32gb this means you could owe nearly $700.00 to Verizon for a phone you no longer possess.Insurance ( $8.50-$10.00 a month ),involves a third party, plus a $200.00 replacement flee to get a ( refurbished?) replacement, but, remember this : The original phone still had to be paid for.

This is quite different from the the cellphone company's old two year plan where you could buy the exact same phone for as little as $100.00!

BEWARE: Being out a hundred bucks for a lost or stolen phone is quite different than owing Verizon nearly 700 big ones for the exact same phone.

My wife,Robyn and I found this out the hard way when Robyn's less than two month old I~Phone was  taken from her possession at Steward Lake.

In my dealing with the many very friendly and overly professional Verizon personnel ( 7 different associates during 5 hours and two days of wheeling and dealing ),the one thing that none of them could change is the fact that the full payment of the phone was a rightfully non~negotiated item.

Other items of debate, whether I could put another phone on the lost phone's line, whether the phone's number could still be used,or if the line was cancelled or suspended,or what kind of suspension were argued virtuously by all the parties involved. In fact, under the Edge plan, there was even discussion whether there was or wasn't a monthly/yearly contract.

I strongly suggest asking about these talking points before you join this plan.

I am not saying the Verizon's Edge plan is a bad plan.I am sure in most cases it is a fair and valuable plan, good for all the parties involved.

As of today, our issues are not totally resolved, but Verizon is working hard with me to make this as right as possible.

Just BEWARE : Under the Edge plan the new phone is not discounted. You are paying for it at full price.
