Star Trek & The Sideways Question

While I am on Star Trek....Why does The Enterprise fly sideways around planets? Is it safer that way?Does it use less energy?Wouldn't it be more efficient to fly belly down in orbit?Or belly up?I am just wondering..cuz I don't know.

Because Roddenberry thought it would look better that way.

...or easier to film.It does bring up the question just how would a spaceship orbit a planet.

I just heard on Good Morning America that the space shuttle did a back flip this morning so NASA could get a better look at it's belly. That means it must have been orbiting dorsal side down.

Hmmm,curiouser and curiouser

...unless they're looking at it from a satellite. Either way, it can orbit in either orientation.

so you are saying that it has an either/or orientation:-)

I'm saying the Space Shuttle goes both ways...

...But what about the poor guys on the space station?

One of my teachers way back in junior high school told me she was happy that I had recently decided to become an astronaut. At least that was what I thought she said. What she really told me was that I was just taking up space:-o
