The 2004 book,'Worst Than Watergate' by John Dean is turning into a fascinating-if not terrorising- read.In the chapter dealing with Dick Cheney's secret government[a shadow National Security Council that is beyond the reach of congress and everybody else and which is disguised as a think tank],the author lists, via Republican Congressman Ron Paul,a cliff notes analysis of what modern neoconservatives believe.I am posting that list now because I did not know this was their beliefs:
-They agree with Trotsky's idea of a permanent revolution.
-They identify strongly with the writings of Leo Strauss
-THEY EXPRESS NO OPPOSITION TO THE WELFARE STATE AND WILL EXPAND IT TO WIN VOTES AND POWER.
-THEY BELIEVE IN A STRONG FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
-They believe the ends justify the means in politics-that hardball[in]politics is a moral necessity.
-They believe lying is necessary for the state to survive.
-They believe certain facts should be known only by the political elite, and withheld from the general public.
-They believe in preemptive war and the naked use of military force to achieve any desired ends.
-They openly endorse the idea of an American empire, and hence unapologetically call for imperialism.
-They are willing to use force to impose American ideals.
-They scoff at the Founding Father's belief in neutrality in foreign affairs.
-They believe 9/11 resulted from lack of foreign entanglements, not from too many.
-They are willing to redraw the map of the Middle East by force, while unconditionally supporting Israel and the Lukud Party.
-They view civil liberties with suspicion,as unnecessary restrictions on federal government.
-They despise libertarians and dismiss any arguments based on constitutional grounds.
There you have it fight fans.It is not exactly what I thought they would believe, but the way they double speak everything...it kindda makes sense.

Being an eternal optimist you probably did not want to believe it, no one does, but it is exactly what others have said about them for a long time. Especially in the blogging community. A scarey and strange fact. We have known that Dick Cheney is not a good man and this just verifies that fact.
Dharma,I do not look at myself so much as being an optimist, but as being too delusional to be a realist. In my opinion, realists see the world in a man eat man,you live and then you die sort of way.I can not live my life this way so I add hope. There are some rewards in this life that I know I will probably never get,but it is the hope of them that makes life worth living, and I am just too pigheaded to give them up:-)
Add swastika armband and waddaya get? Another day older and deeper into The Fourth Reich.
And yes, they do believe it, too.
