Ohio's Issue 4 vs. Issue 5:2006

[Attention:This is a 2006 issues post-not for 2008]

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?Which issue is which? Is Ohio Issue 5 the smoking ban I want to vote Yes on,or is it Issue 4?Yes on 4?No on 5?Huh!?!I AM SO CONFUSED!!! [Go to the bottom for the easy answers.]

In case you didn't know it,there is an awful amount of confusion on the Nov.7th ballot concerning the two anti-smoking issues.

Does voting on Issue 4 allow some smoking in public places? Is Issue 5 the one that almost totally outlaws all smoking in public places?

Is Issue 5 the one sponsored by the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and American Lung Association, doctors, hospitals and every major health organization in Ohio?

Is Issue 4 the one sponsored by the Big Tobacco Companies?

I am here to make it easy for you.

Issue 4( Here is the full text of Issue 4. ) Wants to allow limited smoking in public places!Bars, restaurants, bingo halls, ballgames, etc.:EVEN WHERE EXISTING LAWS NOW SAY THAT PEOPLE CAN NOT LEGALLY SMOKE.Sponsored by the tobacco companies.

Issue 5 (Here is the full text of Issue 5.)Wants no public smoking! There are very few exceptions to the rule, smoking rooms in motels, limited outdoor sections of restaurants, bars.WITH FINES FOR NOT COMPLYING.Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and American Lung Association with doctors, hospitals and every major health organization in Ohio.

To reiterate:

Issue 4: Smoking Good! "4 is 'for' smokers."

Issue 5: Smoking Bad! "5 is against 2nd hand smoke"

( IF STILL IN DOUBT: I SUGGEST VOTING 'NO' ON BOTH ISSUES
AND THINGS WILL STAY AS THEY ARE NOW. )
