Enquiring Minds Would Like To Know

Two Mondays ago I read an article on 'Mixter's Mix' that made me mad enough to actually e-mail a letter to my Ohio state senator,Mike DeWine. He not only is my senator, but running for re-election,so I felt that if he wanted any chance at my vote he might feel obligated to answer my query.I am enclosing my letter to him-minus my last name and other personal information that I gave him-and then I am following up with his reply.

Dear,Sir,My name is Andrew[ ].I am a lifetime Democrat, but I am trying to keep an open mind. The war in Iraq is very troubling to me.It seems to have put us in quite a jam,but I think I see our need of having a military presence over there.I have just read this article: http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=LEO20050805&articleId=806 ,and Sir,if this article is anywhere near true, then Halliburton's actions seem like they are on the brink of treason to The United States of America.Isn't trying to keep nuclear weapons away from Iran one of our President's major goals?Of course, this article maybe totally wrong.I have not seen anything else about this in the major press outlets. But,if this is true, what course of action do you think I,as an average American, should take concerning it?Mr.Senator, any advice you could give me would be helpful.I thank you,in advance.God Bless America and the great state of Ohio, Andrew [ ]

Here is his intial reply that I recieved via e-mail yesterday.

Dear Friend,Thank you for visiting my website and sending me your message. It's greatto hear from you! I will do my best to send a more detailed follow-upemail soon with a more specific response to your inquiry.Very respectfully yours,Mike DeWineUnited States Senator

I admit,I a surprized and happy that he replied.I will be waiting for his follow up.

An Open Letter To Bill Clinton:

Hell Is For Habanero

Being sort of in a blue funk anyway,I decided to breakdown and do the Habanero Challenge with Tyler.Yes,The Ty Man has been challenging me to eat one of his self grown habanero peppers with him for quite a while now...And I have been putting him off on it.

And with good reason:the habanero pepper is one of the hottest peppers around.Habanero peppers, like most peppers have a chemical in them called capsaicin. It is what makes the peppers taste and feel hot.

Scoville heat units(SHU) are a way of measuring this capsaicin hotness. The capsaicin in a pepper is diluted with water until the hotness can no longer be tasted.Bell peppers have no capsaicin and have a Scoville rating of '0'.Jalapenos have between 2,000-8,000 SHU's.Cayenne peppers have between 30,000-50,000.

Habaneros have between 100,000-300,000 SHU'S.

We divided one yellowish ripened habanero-each of us with an equal amount of seeds-straight up and down the middle, and ate(chewed)them whole. At first they tasted just like bell peppers & then the HEAT kicked in.I have a simple way of knowing when a pepper is hot:I hic-cup.I started immediately.

Of course we both agreed on no bread, water, chocolate or anything else until the majority of the heat was gone. The saying is true,if you are in pain, eat a habanero:You will not be able to feel anything else.My mouth was on fire,I was hic-cupping like mad,my nose was running,my ears were plugged up...I COULDN'T FEEL MY FEET!

Wowser!They were hot.Here I am two hours later.The heat,for the most part,is gone.But I am still feeling no pain,sort of euphoric,actually....

...DO I suggest this sort of tournament on anyone else?Well,it was a strange way of having fun...but we were having fun:-)
Thank you Tyler and your cursed Habaneros

Time To Ketchup #2

Hello, everyone.Yes,it is once again time for your favorite game show...'Time To Ketchup':

First off,I finally got the Black Keys new CD,'Magic Potion' in the mail.Alas,it arrived unsigned. The music was recorded in guitarist,Dan Auerbach's basement in a process the band has referred to as,'medium fidelity'.This in itself is a refreshing fact in the era of slick over produced albums. While the Cd may not have a 'single' as catchy as,'10am Automatic' or 'Thickfreakness',I feel on a whole, this is their most totally listenable CD.No doubt about it,this is one good rock/blues power duo.If I were to compare them to a popular band,I would have to say they were more like ZZ-Top then Led Zeppelin, but their music is not so much about the beat,as the motion.Yes,some people compare them to,'The white Stripes',and for the most part, that is a valid comparison.Yippee! They are touring.Tickets for their Columbus show go on sale tomorrow!
Some of you have asked about Tyler's pop can backpacking stoves. You can get instructions on how to make them all over the Internet,so instead of giving a site to go to,I'll leave that up to you. These light, little stoves are most excellent for boiling up a cup of water....Ramen noodles, instant soups, coffee etc can then be added. These stoves are run on very little denatured alcohol...A word of warning, these flames are very hard to see in daylight.

Finally, welcome to fall.Today is the first day of autumn:-)

Yet-Another Friday's Feast !

Appetizer- Measured in minutes or hours, how much exercise have you had in the last week?10 hours

Soup-If you had to change your blog title to something else, what would it be?Told You I Was Sick

Salad-Name one television show you watched when you were 9-12 years old.F-Troop

Main Course-If someone gave you $50 to spend with the one condition that it had to be educational, what would you purchase?I would go out for a night on the town with an good friend...that would teach me

Dessert-Do you tend to prefer dark colors, neutral shades, or lighter/pastel hues?My favorite colour is plaid

A Drew Classic Rerun>The Evolution Of Creative Design

Here is a repeat of an older post that I thought you might enjoy:

Way back when I was in high-school there came out a scientific report that stated that there was absolutely no proof that grandma's chicken soup ever helped get rid of the common cold.Around ten years after that, another scientific report came out claiming that chicken soup had qualities(heat, hydration, salt and the biologic activities in the soup itself)that actually helped reduce the effects of the common cold virus.I mention this to bring up two points.First, that science,as it continues to research, will often find out that what it believes to be true at one point, will later discover,at another point, that it is totally wrong(and vise-versa).Secondly,that science is not afraid to admit that it is wrong. What is true today, may not be true tomorrow. So,can science then be wrong about evolution?Yes,it can be.But do I think it is?No.There is just too much hard evidence to the fact that it probably is not. Now,the dubious claims that man and ape have a common ancestor may be proven either true or false in the future.I personally believe that man and ape never touched, but if there was a split,it happened much earlier in our designs and make up.Man was never ape-ape was never going to be man.I point to the human fetus as a possible argument for my case.In it's development, the human fetus is said to mimic other less complex life forms, from fish on up.But the fact of the matter is,that the human fetus will only ever grow up to be a human being. But,this is just my theory. For my purposes,I am going to just come out and say that ape and man are commonly related.I,as a Christian, have no problem with this. Why?Because The Bible tells me so.What most people don't know is that there are two creation stories in The Bible:Both in Genesis. Most Christians throw bits and pieces of them together to form a theory in which they are most comfortable. But,it is not so easy. In one version(I am not looking them up for you-go look yourself),after it says that God creates the Earth in pretty much the order that the evolutionists say it was created(pretty damn close-too close- for a people who thought the world was flat when they recorded the Genesis story),God says,"Let us make man(kind) in 'our' image..and God creates them 'male and female'.Oops.I bet you didn't know that one.God as plural?Create in OUR image?Whoa.Well,it's in there,go look. The second version has God,when the Earth was still barren, creating Adam out of the dust and breathing life into him.Next God creates 'The Garden' and Adam names all of the animals and finally, out of Adam's rib,God makes Eve.
Well,we all know what happens next. They bite into the apple and are booted out of Eden;they have Cain and Abel,Cain and Abel take wives, and so begins the human race.
Huh?But where did Cain and Able get wives?Have you not been listening?Have you not been reading your Bible?
I think that there are two creation stories in The Bible because there are two creations. The humans created in'our' image, were created last:They were the evolutionary man.It is totally possible, totally within the realm of The Bible, that it is with these human beings that the just kicked out of Eden,Adam,Eve and offspring, mate. In fact:HOW CAN IT NOT BE SO?HOW CAN IT BE OTHERWISE?With who else can Cain and Abel have mated?Give me another good answer.
If you are willing to accept this premise, then much more of Genesis and The Bible make sense. And mankind is now the product of both Adam,Eve and Evolution.Isn't this wonderful? This means that God 'DID' intercede on our behalf. We are of divine origin

9/11 Questions That I Wish Someone Would Asnwer For Me

The way I am figuring it,it is all a matter of degree.I am constantly amazed at how your average repubican can not see how crooked George W.Bush is.My theory is that this average Joe just can not fathom their president being so corrupt and dishonest. They not only can not admit that he is a crook, but are[because of their great faith in this country]purely unable to do so.

And maybe that is just that same way here.Maybe, because what these videos are implying is so very frightening,I am just not able to agree with what they are trying to tell me...I just don't believe them.

So,there is no way that I am claiming to believe these videos. In fact,I don't believe them at all. What they are implying is just too far fetched for me to believe...BUT...The only way to put these conspiracy theories to rest..is by asking the questions they impose and then by coming up with good common sense answers...therefore,totally dismissing these conspiracy theories forever.

As Sherlock Holmes has said,"When you eliminate the impossible, that will leave only the possible, and no matter how improbable, that will be the answer.

So,if there are any demolition experts out there,or other such experts,I am willing and more than glad to hear what you have to say.God Bless American, and our government.

I want to thank Mixter and Six for their inspiration. Also,I have been having terrible trouble with 'YouTube'...so I hope these videos work.My apologies if they do not.

:-)

The Lord is King!Robyn:I LOVE YOU!Nik,you are great.Tyler, you are the man.Adam, you rule.Osquer, you make me smile.Jay,you make Osquer smile.Dharma, you are wunderful..Mixter,you inspire me.Estaban, keep believing,Six,where would we be without football?SBS,I'm rooting for you, girlfriend.Captain Picard,Let it be so.Paperback Writer, keep up the good work.Ravyn, keep writing. My In-Laws & Out Laws, you are great people. To all the rest, sorry I didn't name you, pass me a note and I will add you to the list:-)Praise The Lord and pass the ammunition.

Bobby-Bad Boy-Dylan

First off,I am a BIG Bob Dylan fan.I have been one since way back in high school when my brother,Greg, got a couple of his greatest hits albums, and we played them over and over.In College,Dylan was touring for his 'Saved' LP.He only sang the songs from his newer religious stuff{from 'Saved' and what I consider his best album of all time,'Slowtrain'},and he was GREAT.To this day,I say his concert at The Akron Civic Theater was one of the very best concerts I have ever been to.IT IS the only concert that I have ever been to where after they had already turned up the house lights, people kept cheering:AND HE CAME BACK OUT TO PLAY SOME MORE.I like Bob Dylan so much that when I found out that my boys liked lyrics that mattered,I recently burnt them a CD of some of his better stuff. Now,I have my kids singing 'Hurricane Carter' back to me.WoW!good stuff.
I know you have heard that all good artists, borrow from other artists, and that great artists steal. And I also know you probably have heard of Milton Berle saying that he,'knows a good joke when he steals one',but Bobby on his new CD,'Modern Times',takes stealing to a new level.
Maybe,I should be writing this post after I have actually purchased the CD,but this post isn't about the music(the lyrics,in part-maybe-but not the yet,as unheard of by me,music).
This post is about Bob's thievery.

The CD title is itself a rip-off of Charlie Chaplin's movie of the same name. The CD cover art,is the same 1947 photo (Taxi,New York Night,by Ted Croner)that appears on an EP by a band called Luna.It is on their 1995 'Hedgehog' release. Not only does Mr.Dylan take credit for writing a 'traditional' song called,'Rollin' and Tumblin',but,as you can see from above, that at least four of his songs have almost identical lyrical word usage as the 19th century poet,Henry Timrod.
Wowzer! Each of these things separately could be considered as borrowing unintentionally. But put together....man....it seems like Bobby boy had to be doing this on purpose.
In these days of constant sampling,is this really that bad?I think so.But could Bob Dylan's intent-simply by doing all this-be his social commentary on today's society?Or is that just a too easy of an excuse that I am willing to give to him because I enjoy his music?
Either way,I just know I am going to get the CD.And,in spite of myself, probably like it.

450 Flags

Gino Zimmer and his wife,Lisa, head The Ohio Flags Of Honor Foundation. They display 450 American flags in a traveling memorial in honor of Ohio soldiers whom have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The memorial is currently on display on the front Logan County Courthouse lawn in Bellefontaine,Ohio.

The Zimmers came up with the idea after their only son,Nicholaus, died in Iraq.It came as a way of helping to keep his,and the other Ohioans memories alive.

Mr.Zimmer is quoted as saying,"It helps the hurt go away, and it is when I am not setting up the flags that it hurts. He continues onto say,"I keep thinking,I'm just dreaming, and I'll see him any day ,now."

Three hundred of the flags are donor flags. One hundred and fifty of them are to honor the fallen Ohio hero's.

Burning

So.....Now the Muslim world is acting violently-burning churches, burning the Pope in effigy and generally acting like spoiled children because the Pope said in the early days of their religion they may have spread their faith through violence(Dah)...proving the Pope's point.Forgive me for saying this, but I do believe the Pope,as leader of HIS religion, has a right to preach the value of his faith over that of others.Excuse me,but isn't that what Muslim leaders do,too? And why shouldn't they?

It appears to me-a non-Muslim-that Muslims must have very little faith in their own religion. Why else burn churches and people in effigy?I mean,to me-a Christian-if I had heard a non Christian spouting off about Christ,say...saying he peed his pants...what would I care?Because that's probably not even true.If a non -Christian said that Christ was gay...what would I care?I am neither asking them or forcing them to see what I perceive as the light.

Now,if a non Christian said these things, and I did not have the faith to dismiss these accounts..it would really piss me off..and all the prayer in the world would not be able to change me.Even if what this non Christian said to me made me doubt, why should I put my doubt back on him.It is my doubt and I would have to find my way in dealing with it.

One of the riches I have always found in the Muslim religion,is their massive amount of faith.I constantly wish I could express my belief as openly and expressively as my Muslim cousins....but this intolerance makes me doubt my brothers. How can they be so easily swayed? How can someones words not even of their belief, and not even being said being said directly to them cause them to act the way the speaker says they have acted before?

I just don't get it.

Ella Font & Don Key

Ella:Can I buy you a drink?
Don:Sure
Ella:Two black and tans, please.Did you read TheDrews piece on the Guantanamo Bay Inquisition?
Don:Yeah,I did.I found it charming.Thank you for the drink. And you?
Ella:Oh,I guess I begrudgingly liked it.There is some truth in it.
Don:WoW!
Ella:But he doesn't go far enough. He got me thinking...the road goes both ways.
Don:You have a foamy mustache.I am not sure I understand.
Ella:Well, couldn't this be also known as the times of the Muslim Inquisition? You have a foamy mustache, too.
Don:Good point.Didn't the 9/11 terrorists all praise Allah before there asses went through their heads?
Ella:I wouldn't have put it that bluntly ,but yes.The Pope just spoke to a group saying that Muslims should learn their lesson from the Catholic mistakes;that it is anti-God to convert people through torture and terrorism.
Don:Yeah,I saw that. They were protesting, saying that he-the Pope-was spreading misunderstanding of the Muslim faith.
Ella:But was he?I am not even going to go into how Christians are outlawed in most Muslim countries,or how America soldiers were booted out of Saudi Arabia because we were heathens and also we had women.I am talking about the Pope's message.I think it was meant not as preaching, but a warning.
Don:Yeah, well, that is something I don't get.How come the Muslims can yell death to America, burn our flag, and we are just supposed to take it,but if we question their violent tactics, they raise up in protests against us?
Ella:You are not gonna get me to say it.
Don:Aww,come on.
Ella:No,and again,no.
Don:That is is hard to be holier then thou when you've...
Ella:...Attacked a country that hasn't done anything to you...Don't you ever give it a rest? Can't there be a case against some of the Muslims-see-i said-some-without it involving US?
Don:Yes,you are right,it can.Aaah, that was a good beer.Want me to buy the next round?
Ella:Don't have time. Our Friday morning meeting starts in a half hour.

The Guantanamo Inquisition

The supposed tortures taking affect at Guantanamo Bay could have negative effects on the spreading of democracy for hundreds of years. On what do I base this theorem? Why the Spanish Inquisition of course.

For you unfamiliar with the Spanish Inquisition,it was a doctrine initiated by Pope Sixtus IV in 1478 to basically covert heretics and heathens to Christianity via tortuous methods.

According to my facts, this involved the death and torture of many peoples, but most remembered are the torturous death of the Jewish people.

The lasting effects of this 'program' are many, but I feel it is best illustrated by this one personal example.I was born and raised Catholic. There are many, many Catholic people of great faith today whom follow both their church and Jesus Christ with their whole heart and soul. And I have nothing but admiration for the vast majority of these very holy and religious Christians. But many deeply compassionate people have left the church because of this Spanish Inquisition. My brother,Carl being one of them.

My brother,Carl is one of the nicest, kindest, coolest people you would ever want to meet. But when he learned what the Catholic Church did during the S.I. he quit going to church all together. He couldn't stomach torture in the name of the Lord.

No matter that the church was probably no different then most governing bodies of it's day(some reports say that it was even more merciful then most),Carl believed that Christ and torture just could not mix.He refused to believe, then, that this Catholic Church could be God's Church, and left for good.

This is the very real danger of Guantanamo Bay.Will otherwise compassionate freedom loving people forgo democracy because of the short sightedness of our current administration? Will not just Muslims, but our fellow Americans, not four hundred years from now,but today, start to forget the path of democracy just because of this flagrant abuse of it?

That is my real fear. Not of terrorists, but of our own nation destroying what we honor and love most not just for us,but for those well into the future as well.

I would rather have my family die in a terrorist attack then forgo democracy, truth, justice and the American way. There has to be a better way.America has to lead the cause of freedom...or the path could be lost forever.

Tyler

Tyler is the middle child(just like me).He is my 'Jack Of All Trades'.Tyler loves growing and eating hot peppers, being a diverse artist(he likes to draw, paint, work with clay, etc).Ty loves wearing his Chuck Taylor Converse. He loves to fish & back pack.Tyler makes his own pop can backpacking stoves. He loves rock & roll music...loves his mp3 player:-)Tyler plays the cello and the mandolin. He went on the Mississippi Mission Trip.He participates in the high school plays.Tyler is an all around great guy.

Men In Trees

I don't normally do this, but I've seen this trailer for a new ABC Tv show called,'Men In Trees'.It looks like the poor man's 'Northern Exposure',and probably won't last long. The trailer did show tree trimmers and a chipper in the background...so in it is worth seeing,if just for that.

It Was A Dark And Stormy Night

Good Wednesday morning.I managed to finally watch the beginning of Fight Club last night...and I have to admit it was different then I thought it would be.Around a third of the way through we noticed a bunch of police cars and fire trucks five houses down,so I went to investigate.Police were wearing gloves and more police kept coming. It was around 45 minutes later that I realized that they were going to be there a while and I went back home...missed the movie. There was nothing about it on the radio station this morning-very unusual in itself-so I called, they say the police are being very tight lipped about it,but they were there until after one o'clock.Neighbors were thinking a suicide, but car doors were left open, the neighboring houses checked out by the police. It was all very scary.FIVE HOUSES DOWN! I tell you,I will never read,'It was a dark and stormy night,'again without getting a chill.

Black Keys Videos

Here are three Black Key Videos. The Black Keys are:: Dan Auerbach (vocals, guitar) Patrick Carney (drums)
The Black Keys- on Late Show- Stack Shot Billy

The Lengths

The Black Keys - 10 A.M. Automatic

The Black Keys

Today is the big day-music wise. The Black Keys new cd,'Magic Potion',comes out!It has been a very long time since I have been excited about any new music. The Black Keys, for you that don't know who they are,are a two man rock/blues combo from Akron,Ohio.Though you may never have heard of them,I am sure you have heard them.Their music has been used on commercials for Victoria's Secret,Nissan cars,The Tour Le France, and even on some Tv shows like Modern Marvels.

This is their forth full length studio cd.They do have a couple EP's and a DVD.They have been on both Conan O'Brian and David Letterman. And if there was any justice in the world,They would be kings of rock radio(if that even exists anymore).Robert Plant when asked if there was anyone he would like to jam with today, said The Black Keys.Entertainment Weekly gave this new cd an 'A-'.Rolling Stone gave it three and a half stars.

And...I almost saw them once.I went on line last year and bought non-refundable tickets to actually go see them in Cincinnati.I printed them off and showed them to the boys the next morning. All three boys like The Black Keys, but Tyler loves them.He goes,"Um,Dad,does that mean we can skip a night of being in the high school musical?"Crap,I didn't know of that scheduling conflict. All three boys were in,'West Side Story',the same weekend as the concert.Adam had a speaking and a solo singing part.

Nik said I should sell them on E-Bay,but I thought I would just sell them to Robyn's brother in Cincinnati.Well,I waited too long.Low and behold,he called us...they were coming up to the musical that very night!Needless to say,I still have the tickets.

It is just my luck, that I have another piece of Andy's luck involved with this new cd as well. They were selling it on line-signed copies to the first 100 people who bought them,so I ordered it...only to see in the small print,'will not be shipped until sept,12th'.

So,I did not get this in the mail today.

Here are some of their songs from their other cd's worth downloading:

10am Automatic
Thickfreakness
Have Love-Will Travel
Have Mercy On Me

2,973 people died and 24 people still remain listed as missing.I dedicate this series of postings to these brave souls and their families.God be with them all.

A History Lesson

I bet you didn't know that The World Trade Center began as the idea of two members of the rich and powerful Rockefeller family. Both David(Chairman of the Chase Manhattan Bank)and his younger brother Nelson (Governor of New York)were instrumental in it's early development.

David, the elder brother, founded the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Development Association. In the early 1960's,the LMDA along with Governor Nelson Rockefeller pushed very hard for the WTC's construction.

It was the time of the Kennedy Presidency.America was beginning to feel full of itself. What could be a better way in restoring confidence in New York City-in all of America-than by creating a symbol of America's power, freedom & capitalistic systems?

It's an interesting fact that anything built within twenty five miles of the Statue of Liberty is under control of a legal body called the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In 1962 it gave it's permission for the WTC project to begin.

Minoru Yamasaki(and Associates)of Michigan was hired as the architect. The Twin Towers were part of a total of seven buildings constructed for the WTC.As near as I could find out,the reason the two 110 story towers were made was because one single skyscraper would have been considered too massive and a series of smaller buildings would have looked too much like a large housing project.Mr.Yamasaki designed a plaza so that the buildings would be accessible to the public. His design was also meant to give the WTC the impression of distinction.

Construction began in 1966,and covered over 16 acres.164 buildings were demolished in the process! At it's peak, over 3,500 people were working at the sight. In the end, over 10,000 people worked on the project.OVER SIXTY PEOPLE WERE KILLED DURING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER'S CONSTRUCTION!

The North Tower(the one with the antenna)stood at 1368 feet.It was opened in December of 1970.The South Tower stood at 1362 feet and was completed and opened for business in January 1972.Both were dedicated in April of 1973 and stood as the world's tallest buildings at the time of their dedication.

Each tower had a central core, and an elevator system that worked sort of like the subway. There were both 'local' and 'express' elevators. The WTC had it's own zip code:10048.50,000 people worked in the complex, and over 200,000 people passed through it's doors every day.
The Two Towers became an instant landmark on the New York City landscape. To me,they are still missed. Both NYC and America seem weaker and smaller without them.

...And Jesus Wept

Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! [ ]Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! [ ]Luke13:1-3a,4-5a
