The world lost it's crocodile hunter today in a freak stingray accident.[AP report:BRISBANE, Australia -- Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.]I used to be a big fan until he dangled his baby in front of a giant croc.!Just how freakish was his accidental death.I hung out with stingrays,and Robyn did so well around them that I went to calling her,'The Stingray Whisperer'.

Even though Steve did some dumb things (yeah, I was pretty upset about the baby and the croc), he was a staunch conservationist and a champion for the animals. We can only hope that his staff and family will carry on with the positive aspects of his work.
